Kenadi’s Playground at Jorgensen Park

Community spirit and solid work ethics were on display May 16, 17 and 18, 2019 as nearly 30 volunteers took part in a group project to makeover a local park.

In cooperation with the City of Spearfish, the community build all-inclusive Kenadi’s Playground at Jorgensen Park project goes way beyond accessibility.  This play and recreation space addresses the needs of the whole child, and of every child, regardless of their age or ability.

Sensory-rich play components include poured-in-place safety surfacing, accessible routes of travel throughout the structure, interactive auditory, visual and tactile play activities, a Rock N Raft and roofs providing shade for cool comfort.

All hands were on the playground deck Thursday, Friday and Saturday to complete the upgrade to Jorgensen Park, improvements made possible through a partnership between the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation and City of Spearfish.  Additional support came from GameTime, Northern Hills Militiamen VMC, Ainsworth-Benning Construction, Professional Mapping & Surveying, Schultz Construction & Land Maintenance, Croell Redi-Mix, Bierschbach Equipment & Supply, Black Hills Equipment Rentals, and Simons Contractors.

The final element of the project was the installation of the poured-in-place rubber surfacing, completed on June 15, 2019.  Let’s Play!
