Butterfly Day 2020

Under the direction of Mrs. Tammie Wood and support of the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education, Butterfly Day was once again celebrated on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Mountain View Elementary.

The Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation created and progressed this annual day of inclusion for Kindergartners and is proud of the Spearfish School District for maintaining it as an annual part of the regular school curriculum.

Kindergarten Teachers, Therapists and Volunteers provided hands-on craft projects and gross motor activities like Pillow Case Soccer and Foggy Glasses to demonstrate how someone with a disability might participate in routine play.

The students painted rocks in conjunction with the book which was read titled We Are All Alike… We Are All Different, and their unique artistic creation will be placed in the school’s rock river when dry.

Kindergartens take home an informational sheet titled, ‘Ask Me What I Learned Today’ which outlines the activities along with tips for parent on how to answer their child’s questions about our differences.  Through honest conversation you just might find that we are all more alike than we are different.
